How to install a sinhala or tamil font in to a computer
You may find it necessary to install additional fonts onto their computer because of the lack of available fonts to choose from. In addition to the below steps to manually install fonts onto your computer, it is also important to realize that several different software applications will also install extra fonts when they are installed onto your computer. Lot of Sinhala and Tamil fonts does not comes with a software package (Ex: Helawadana, Kaputa, Helabasa )
Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, and XP users
- Right click and save the font file on your computer.
- If the font file is archived (RAR, ZIP), unzip it.
- Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
- Open the Fonts icon by double clicking the icon.
- Within the Fonts window you will be able to view each of the currently installed fonts as well as install new fonts.
- To install a font, click the File menu and select Install New Font.
- Locate the directory of the font you wish to install.
- Highlight the fonts you wish to install and click ok.
Other Microsoft Windows versions (windows 7, windows 8)
- Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
- Open the Fonts icon by double clicking the icon.
- Within the Fonts window you will be able to view each of the currently installed fonts as well as install new fonts.
- To install a font, click the File menu and select Install New Font.
- Locate the directory of the fonts you wish to install.
- Highlight the fonts you wish to install and click ok.
Tip Users may also easily install fonts onto the computer by opening the fonts folder through Windows Explorer. Usually this folder is either C:WINDOWS or C:WINNT/ FONTS. Once this folder is open, select the fonts you wish to install from an alternate folder and copy and paste them into the fonts folder.
Apple Macintosh users
- Open the System Fonts folder.
